Saturday 19th September 2009 Hornsey 240 (42 overs) NMCC 91 (22 overs)
Sunday 13th September 2009 NMCC 155 (tbc) - Jordan Carter top scorer. Southill Park 207 (40 overs) - Matt Rathbone 3 wickets, Stuart Bulger and Blake Carter 2 wickets apiece Saturday 12th September 2009 North Mymms CC 200-9 Mymms lost by 36 runs On a sunny afternoon we arrived at Botany Bay good 11. we had 1 debutant SAM DAVIES. I won the toss and elected to field. Matt Rathbone opened down the hill and had a good first over, Darren Medforth opened the other end and bowled well. Medforth got his first wicket an LBW and the oppo's skipper was back in the hut and then followed up with a catch a fine leg off Adam Davies. Adam came on to replace matt and with his first ball got a wicket, then Medforth got his 2nd wicket caught at square leg by Ian Cheeseman. then on came goody to try and remove the aussie, but he tucked into anything short and wide crap (nothing unusual from goody.) Nathan Stiffin came on to replace Adam and bowled very, very well and was unlucky to get a wicket, Nathan had a good spell and then ben howell replaced him and bowled well and could of had a wicket but a missed stumping, which was costly in the end. Matty Perridge came on to replace goody, he bowled ok but struggled to find line and length but managed to grab a wicket in his 2nd over but the aussie still tucked in. I came back on and continued to bowl crap but lucky enough the aussie had retired for 126. Adam came back on up the hill for 3 overs and was dispatched to all parts of the ground. so i decided to give him a rest. Ben Howell got back on and finally picked up a wkt. Sam Davies came on to bowl the final over, he should of got 2 wkts in 2 balls but 1 was dropped at point Dilruk and then the next ball bounced over middle stump and missed by an inch. Botany bay finished on 236-6 off 40. Then after tea, we started off with high hopes of chasing this score down. Ian Cheeseman and Adam Davies opened. Adam hit a couple of lovely shots before playing on for 6, then Dilruk joined Cheesey and he looked dangerous with good shots but Cheesey then was out for 7 and in came Ben Howell and was determined to get some runs and then dilruk was out LBW outside leg stump. then Goody came to the crease at 26-3, with 236 looking miles away, I told Ben "we can win this". but we got our heads down and played some good shots, we put on 73 for the 4th wicket, Ben then departed for an excellent 31 and fine shots(6x4's), Matty Perridge then came in and decided to be aggressive from the begginning and scored runs quickly. Goody then departed for a good captains innings of 36 but was caught at mid wkt playing a bouncer. Nathan Stiffin came to middle and wanted to get runs to up his average but was unlucky and bowled by a quick yorker by the aussie. Mark Topham came in to partner matty p and started off shaky as ever but supported matt well, the pair put on 60 and mark had only scored 8, Matt Perridge scored his first 50 for the club with 11x4's and off 47 balls. Mark departed but he supported and held up the end well. WELL DONE In next was Matt Rathbone, he had high hopes of following he middle order and scoring runs but failed and got 2 and then out 2 balls later. then Matty P was out for a well batted 51 of 52 balls. This brought in the tail enders of Darren Medforth and Sam Davies. Darren had Adam running for him because he fielded with his feet not hands. Sam batted well being that this was his first men's game and blocked out there quick bowlers and finished on 3 off 11, Medforth finished off with 11 of 12, We finished on 200-9 off 40 overs. PLUS A BIG THANK YOU FOR MICKEY STIFFIN for UMPIRING and COLIN BARSON FOR SCORING UNTIL 6PM MAN OF THE MATCH: Mathew Perridge, Well batted for a deserved maiden 50 for Mymms. REFUSAL OF THE MATCH: Sam Davies, when the aussie was on 35. GOODY.

4th August 2009 Lost - NMCC 152 (35.1 overs) Cockfosters 227 (43.1 overs) Cockfosters won the toss and elected to bat. Opening, Kyle Claxton (ex NMCC) scored 80 (from 95 balls, 10x4s 1x6), before he was eighth out with the score on 177. Ben Langford 3 for 1, Aled Langley 2 for 43. NMCC 152 all out from 35.1 overs Ben Langford 68 from 46 balls with 9x4s and 1x6 Dan Boucher, opening, 22 from 44 balls with 3x4s. Their partnership added 53 runs Tony Gibbs 3rd August 2009 Won - NMCC 165 - 3 (31.3 overs) Northmet 160 (49.5 overs) The first match of cricket week saw Mymms take the field in slightly overcast conditions with a hint of rain in the air that thankfully didn't materialise after the soakings of the weekend. The number of overs that Northmet received in three hours and their eventual score indicates that we had a long afternoon in the field fighting off hunger pangs from 4:30 onwards -not helped by Hattie standing watching in her ''Chef" apron. Still there was plenty of incident. Goody took three catches and three wickets (one caught and bowled and two clean bowled). David Searle also took three wickets with Ian McCarthy and Jamie Blackburn two each. Stuart Bulger (making a welcome return to the game) and Dan Boucher also bowled. At one stage Macca had figures of 5 - 5 - 0 - 2! The wickets fell in clumps - first at 50, a couple around 60, two at 116, two at 149 and then the final three for just eleven runs. Skipper Ian Cheeseman took one splendid catch and then in attempting another in the deep fell backwards and bumped his head. After just failing to take another catch he left the field to recover leaving David Searle in charge. Andrew Craig kept tidily with just three byes conceded out of a total of five extras (1 wide and 1 leg bye). After tea, the openers Stuart Bulger and Peter Tyler set about creating a solid foundation for the run chase. Stuart was first to fall with 19 on the board for seven runs. Jon Mather and Peter then added 126 for the second wicket. Peter scored 37 in 108 minutes off 106 balls with 4 fours. With the total comfortably within reach Chris Cook was sent in with instructions to 'entertain'. Despite trying to create the scenario for Jon to win the game, and at least approach a ton, this didn't happen. Chris scored nine from the partnership of 14 (12 minutes, 16 balls) before falling to a catch at mid-off. Dan Boucher took one lusty blow for six to complete the game. Jon finished with 80 not out (104 minutes, 77 balls, 14 fours). Thanks to Adam Davies for the scoring stats. I think I have mentioned everyone. Chris Cook 13th July 2009 NMCC 159 (43 overs) Hertford 156 - 9 (44 overs) We seem to be specialising in close run games this season. At the start of the final over all results were possible. In brief, Rhys Carter came in with high hopes of building on his 98 of the previous day but fell early for 2. Peter Tyler followed soon afterwards. This left Jon Mather to patiently build an innings of 61 with some support from Ben Langford and the tail. The total didn't look enough but Hertford were quickly in some trouble and struggled to keep up with the run rate falling at one stage seriously behind. Fortunately Ben bowled well finishing with 5 for 46 and Hertford and Mymms emulated England and Australia in achieving a drawn match. 14th June 2009 NMCC 243 - 5 (48 overs) Botany Bay 244 - 7 (43.5 overs) It was one of those days when you really want to bat first and then field in the cooler part of the day. Rhys Carter clearly isn't bothered by the heat as he made yet another entry into the hall of fame (ok highlights page on this site) by compiling 120 in 121 minutes and off 120 balls with 18 fours and 1 six. Supporting parts were played by Jon Mather (21), Ben Langford (65 not out) and Andrew Goodliffe (22 not out) with minor roles for Ben Howell, Mark Topham and Chris Cook (very minor!). Ian Bright, Adam Davies, Luc Cook and Mathew Monte-Colombo watching from the boundary. Jon Mather made a bold decision in declaring shy of 250 - one act of many that were decisive during the afternoon. After a very decent tea, Adam Davies and Andrew Goodliffe opened the bowling, both bowling well enough for no return. Requiring as it turned out a shade over 5.5 runs per over, the home side kept up reasonably well. First change Ben Howell also remained wicketless until Mr Carter re-entered the fray taking two wickets in two balls both through catches (one being a Luc Cook / Jon Mather joint effort). Mathew Monte-Colombo bowled the opposition number 4 to his evident disgust (!), the remaining wickets falling to two run outs and a clean bowled by Ian Bright. A tense last few overs saw Botany Bay pick up the winning runs on the last ball of the 20 overs. A good game with some memorable moments. Mark Topham's juggling behind the stumps just not quite good enough to take a wicket but entertaining. Ultimately we let ourselves down through too many extras being conceded (24 - 8 byes, 4 leg byes, 9 wides and 3 no balls) - oh and that declaration...... Chris Cook. 25th May 2009 NMCC 229-7 (40 overs) Preston 150 (33.3 overs)
On an overcast but humid Bank Holiday Monday afternoon, Mymms come out to the field knowing that early wickets would mean that their chances of winning would improve but the Preston openers played aggressively against opening bowlers Adam Davies and Rumesh Perera. The first bowling change had a immediate effect as Langford replaced Perera and took a wicket in his first over with the score on 62. Preston then moved the score on to 91 before the 2nd wicket fell to Carter. Wickets then began to tumble regularly as Preston collapsed from 104 for 2 to 129 for 7. This was brought about by tight bowling from Langford, Davies, Carter and Howell. Fresh from his four wickets the previous day Bright come on to bowl the final few overs and picked up a further two wickets. The last wicket fell to Carter caught behind. Preston 150 all out. A good win for Mymms and a good team performance. Bowling Figures Rumesh Perera 3 0 35 0 Adam Davies 8 1 40 0 Ben Langford 8 3 18 4 Rhys Carter 4.3 0 18 2 Ben Howell 8 1 20 2 Ian Bright 2 0 7 2 Adam Davies 24th May 2009 NMCC 251 - 8 (36.3 overs) London Colney Over 40s 227 (51.5 overs) Actually both sides were originally supposed to be over 40s (old codgers as Ian Cheeseman put it on the previous Friday). As the team usually selects itself from the available eleven players this was never remotely possible. Ian Bright, Alan Richardson and myself helped to raise the average age of our team. As it happened London Colney probably did meet an average age of 40 despite a handful of youngsters. The opposition skipper felt that he had a weak team and was happy to field first, a position I have often been in myself. Rhys Carter and Tom Rogers put on 38 for the first wicket after six overs, Tom departing for 1. Ben Langford and Rhys progressed the score to 62 maintaining an over rate of around six. Ben departed caught for 11. debutant Rumesh Perera went for a breezy twelve with some pleasant shots. The score was now 121 - partnership 59 and seventeen overs gone. Rhys motored through his ton and reached 152 before retiring. Two brief cameos followed Ian Bright three balls, one run and Andrew Goodliffe two balls and one run less. Urvish Mistry hit a bright 30. Luc Cook hit his first boundary in adult cricket and amassed eight runs before ambling for a second run and being run out. Alan Richardson (17 n.o.) and Martin Dee (5 n.o.) saw the total to 251-8 declared. Yes, we could've put London Colney to the sword but Rhys had scored his best ever score, the body language of the fielders was becoming increasingly wearied and their skipper felt they could score 250 so hence the early declaration. Time should've been on our side and the expectation was probably of a quick win or a dogged struggle for survival by the Colney batsmen. To their credit neither occurred. After a slow start, the batsmen started to pick up the pace, albeit courtesy of an eventually 48 extras (36 wides!). Martin Dee and Goody were unable to breakthrough so first change was the inspired choice of Ian Bright for Martin. Ian picked up the first two wickets (catch by Rumesh and number three bowled). Next wicket was the other opener caught Perera bowled Mistry with the score on 72. Number 6 fell clean bowled to Perera who was bowling a touch too quickly for the opposition, some of whom who were not wearing helmets. 129 - 6 and still in the game. The Colney skipper and one of the four Rays (spanning three generations) settled down and amassed 84 runs. Much rotation of bowlers followed before Ben Langford bowled Peter Norris for 97. The task now was to mop up the tail. Another Ray was bowled by Mr Langford. A consultation between Ben and Chris led to the reintroduction of Ian Bright who obliged by enticing Mr Ray into launching a shot towards the boundary down Chris's throat - probably the turning point. Another wicket for Ben and then Ian polished off the innings when Tom Rogers stumped number 11 - another Ray! A very enjoyable game that had us all looking nervously at the scoreboard and calculating run rates. The opposition appreciated the generous declaration and there was a good spirit between the teams. Well done everyone especially for keeping the overs ticking over. Special kudos of course to Rhys for his highest ever score and Ian for his four wickets but also to Tom Rogers for a very good performance behind the timbers. Thanks to Colin and Peter for scoring and Paula for an excellent tea. Chris Cook 17th May 2009 NMCC 179 Eaton Bray 68 (Village Cup 40 overs). Original report by Jon Mather (there are a few original words left!) After an appalling start to the day, raising concerns that the game may not go ahead, the rain finally relented and Eaton Bray elected to give North Mymms first use of the straw coloured wicket. With the wicket promising to be fast, Jon Mather, opted to use hard-hitting Dan Boucher to open the batting. Boucher, accompanied by Mymms legend, Mark Saxby, did not disappoint. Unfortunately Mark went out to a beautiful delivery caught behind off Eaton Bray’s quick bowler. Multi-talented Neil Bamford was next in to bat and although out quickly for 19, it was an entertaining innings as he took the attack to Eaton Bray, dispatching all bowlers to various parts of the ground. Bamford's departure set the scene for the match winning 98 for third wicket partnership of 98 between Boucher and Mather. Boucher was amassing runs with fours & sixes until he was out for a well deserved 77. Mather continued on with his trademark calmness, serenity and strokeplay before being run out for a solid 31. The players were noticeably disappointed considering all the earlier hard work and effort as Mymms collapsed to 179 all out in the 35th over. Strong words from the skipper, followed and the team, stepped up to the challenge and were rewarded with extraordinary performances. Adam Davies took out the top three batsmen of Eaton Bray in quick succession and the visitors never recovered. The Mymms Spinners' show aka veterans Duggan, Saxby and Clements taking seven wickets to bowl Eaton Bray for 68 runs. An entertaining afternoon for the supporters at Home Farm and a fantastic result for North Mymms. On 31 May Mymms take on Langleybury at Home Farm in the semi final in what they hope will be a well supported match. NMCC Batting : Dan Boucher 77 Jon Mather 31 NMCC Bowling : Adam Davies : 6 2 10 3 Mark Saxby 9 5 6 0 Danny Duggan 9 3 22 3 Rob Clements 6.1 1 26 4 Dan Boucher in an earlier guise. The shot went for four despite the impression of Bambi on ice. 10th May 2009 Watton-at-Stone 217-8 (43 overs) NMCC 146. One of the joys of captaincy is waking up in the small hours wondering whether everyone knows about the game. There had been one player drop out through injury on Saturday evening. However all was fine and the opposition turned up too. Home Farm looked smashing although there were suggestions that the track might be mischievous - after all the First XI were bowled out for 100 on the previous day. There were two debutants, Aussie Ben Langford playing his first Sunday match (welcome Ben to a more relaxed form of the game) and Urvish Mistry, a bowler who that Jon said would give me some control. More later. The rest of the team were the experienced Ian McCarthy, Ian Bright, Nilanka Sooriyabandara, me, newcomer Aki Hussain (behind the stumps for most of the innings) together with our young but now experienced colts Matt Rathbone, Jamie Blackburn, Nathan Stiffin and Luc Cook (who looked remarkably like Chris Gregory for the first couple of overs - thanks Chris. A nice mixture in my view and a side that should be stronger than many we put out last season. Although this was a 'weak' conference fixture Watton-at-Stone arrived with their overseas player and four first team players so I was relaxed about using Ben and Macca in major roles. I won the toss and chose to field as is my want. Matt Rathbone had choice of ends and bowled in tandem with Macca. The first wicket fell at 40 to a caught and bowled by Macca. Urvish came on first change with his first ball sailing over the batsmen's head however he soon settled down with a maiden in the his second over. Ben (or is it Bruce) took over at the Church end and went for 17 in his first over however that was an aberration and bowled the number 3 in his third over. From there on in, Macca took two more wickets, Jamie Blackburn bowled well naturally taking some hammer for a young slow bowler but being rewarded with a wicket, Matt, Nathan and Uvresh also taking wickets. Our batting line-up was designed to provide the opportunity for an assault on the target, provide good opportunities for the youngsters but also hold out the prospect of a dogged rearguard action if required. We went through all three phases. Nilanka fell fairly early which brought Ben to the crease and a demonstration of destructive hitting including two big sixes. However when he was out stumped for 75 he had already lost five partners, Urvish for 3, Aki for 1, Matt for 17 (some nice shots included) and Macca for 10. The score being 113. Ian Bright came in to join Jamie on the back of a big score on Saturday but departed for 3. Nathan came and went for 2, Luc saw a pull shot edge tantalisingly close to the boundary but was then bowled for 3. I joined Jamie just after the twenty overs to see if we could see out things out for a draw. Twenty six minutes later Jamie was caught for seven off 57 balls. The end result was an enjoyable game played in a very good spirit on one of the best cricket grounds in the county. Thanks to Mick for helping out with the umpiring and Colin for scoring. Chris Cook.
3rd May 2009 Sunday 19th April 2009. Mymms lose by 5 wickets. Mymms lost their first warm up game of the season on a bright but windy day. Mymms batted first after Mymms captain Jon Mather won the toss. Wicketkeeper Louis Walpole and Mark Terry opened for Mymms and after a 50 partnership lasting 24 overs. Mark Terry departed with a well played 24. The captain Jon Mather was next in looking to increase the run rate. Looking in good nick Jon was out to a magnificent catch by the bowler for 11. Chris Cook joined Louis at the crease and was given out LBW without troubling the score. Needing a batsmen to score a big score quickly. Jeff came in looking to score quickly but fell into the same trap and was caught for 4. Mymms had reached 100 after 35 overs. Steve Thomas joined Louis Walpole who was still battling out on the crease, Steve started brightly but was out for 14. Andrew Goodliffe now joined Louis Walpole, who was edging closer to his maiden fifty Louis tried to take a quick single which he sadly didn't make, he was run out on 49 but I'm sure he will get many more chances at reaching his first fifty, his nerves will be calmer next time around. Mymms declared on 130-7 which seemed a low but defendable target. Thomas and Goodliffe got Mymms off to a bright start with Goodliffe picking up 2 wickets, After fourteen overs the captain brought himself and Jeff Spencer on, both bowled economically deserving more than the 1 wickets from the captain picked up with a well held catch by Steve Thomas. after ten overs from that pairing and with 20 overs left for the day Chigwell were nearing their target. Mymms needed wickets. so captain turned to a new attack of Mark Terry and Matt Rathbone both bowled economically and with Mark Terry deserving a wicket which didn't come. Chigwell reached Mymms target with 7 overs to spare. all in all a good warm up game and very positive to see the team do so well after so long out of the game. Jon Mather |
