NMCC AGM - Thursday 20th November. 8pm at the club. Members should have received notices in the post.

Winter Nets:

In brief - Herts Sports Village is booked for Colts on 7th December. Seventeen colts attended the first session on 12th October and eleven on the second session on 9th November. Let's have a bumper turnout for the 7th December!

Adult nets will run at the same venue at the same time from Sunday 11th January to Sunday 5th April 2009.

Umpiring and Scoring - Taster Evenings

(From Tony Johnson)

The evenings will start at 8pm and last for around 1½ hours and will include short presentations from Alan Price and Brian Mulholland on what you need to know about the two disciplines, how to get involved, details of the courses required, and, if required, planning an in-house club workshop.

We will end with a session for questions, and at each venue the bar will be open.

 Date                             Venue

4th November                  Broxbourne CC

6th November                  Radlett CC

11th November                Letchworth CC

13th November                Potters Bar CC

You may turn up to the venue that suits you, and it will help if we know how many plan to attend.

Please email me at tonyjohnson@connectfree.co.uk (with a subject title of Umpires and Scorers) or text me (07770 966688) with your club name, chosen venue and how many you expect to attend.

Umpiring and Scoring Courses:

Message: 'The game is very short of umpires and scorers.  Training courses are run through the winter, leading to ECB qualification.  Surely in your club there are older players, nearing the end of their playing career, who want to stay involved with the game and put something back?   It doesn't suit everyone, far from it, but for the few it can be a very enjoyable way of extending involvement with the game you love. Training courses for scorers and umpires are held at several places within the area that the Chess Valley League covers. If your club has anybody interested, get him or her to contact Paul Graver at paulwgraver@sky.com or 01923 674961 and Paul will give them contact details for the course nearest to them. Paul will be running an umpires' course at Radlett Cricket Club starting about mid-October'. More details here

It would be interesting to witness the reactions of the founder members of the Club back in 1861 if they could see their Club now.  I think they would be proud of a few facts :-

  • NMCC 1st X1 plays in the Home Counties Premier League Division 2 (East) and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI teams play in Saracens Hertfordshire League Divisions 4, 9 and 12 respectively.

  • A number of players have played at Minor County level or have played representative cricket for the MCC.

  • Andy Lewis is the current captain of the Hertfordshire County Cricket Club, having been re elected for the third season. We wish him and the team every success for 2008.

  • NMCC who currently field four cricket XIs each Saturday and two on Sunday, and also a Colts section, is keen to attract new players at all levels.

My welcome above is not only for existing members but also to those of you who may be surfing the net looking to join a Club either as a player or as a social member.

I hope that after you investigate the information contained on our web site that you will pay us a visit and give yourself the chance to savour the family atmosphere of North Mymms. Consider this an invitation.

Best Wishes,

Jon Mather - Chairman of Cricket
