North Mymms travelled to Cockfosters for Annual McMullen clash. We had experience and youth best described side. Jon Mather won the toss and batted. Mark Saxby and Rhys Wynne opened the innings. Ground was fast and wicket was challenging. Rhys scored very good 45 and opening stand of 104. Saxby carried on batting with usual strokeplay and was assisted by Neil Bamford and Harshad Rawle. Saxby reached his 100 off 101 balls. Good strike rate. All Mymms batters contributed us getting 302 for 6 wickets off 50 overs.
Mark Saxby 100 Harshad Rawle 39 Rhys Wynne 45 Jon Mather 36 n.o Andrew Craig 23
Mymms had to bowl well. Danger batsmen Declan O'Leary sending any bad deliveries screaming to the boundary. He is such a top batsmen. He would score loads of runs at Mymms.
Mymms bowlers all bowled well especially Harshad.
Harshad Rawle 10 overs 2 wickets for 21 runs Danny Duggan 10 overs 2 wickets for 39 runs.
Cockfosters were 229 for 7 off 50 overs.
Mymms won by 73 runs….. Jon Mather Sunday 22nd June North Mymms 254-7 v Eastcote 255-3 Chess Valley League Division 2 Struggling Mymms hosted Middlesex side Eastcote at Home Farm, on a blustery but sunny afternoon. After various late arrivals and general disorganisation, the game got underway with Mymms electing to bat first on a brilliant, flat track. Harshad Rawle and Rhys Carter opened the innings, and looked to be going well, until Carter feathered a catch behind with the score on 17. Andrew Goodliffe played in a positive and unorthodox fashion to score a brisk 21, but he too fell to a catch behind with 64 on the board. Meanwhile, Rawle was batting beautifully, and as captain Jonny Mather strode to the wicket, Mymms began to dominate. These two put on 130 for the 3rd wicket in just 22 overs. Rawle soon registered a century off just 94 balls. When Mather fell for 41, and debutant Wyndham Hughes-D’Aeth ran himself out for 1, Mymms found themselves 197 for 4 after 36 overs. Ben Howell provided steady supported for Rawle who continued to dominate, striking the ball to all areas of the ground, with one eye on beating Mark Saxby’s Mymms record innings of 175. However, Rawle was soon bowled for a magnificent 157. James Oram came to the crease to up the tempo with one over left. He was bowled for 3 off 3 balls, and then Howell followed, stumped with one ball remaining of the innings, leaving young Louis Walpole to score one off the last ball. Mymms closed on 254 for 7 off their 45 overs. Mymms knew they would have to work hard given the quality of the pitch and the short boundary towards the cow field side. Oram and Hughes- D’Aeth struggled against two quality players, but it was Oram who made the breakthrough, dismissing their dangerous Australian, Scolley, caught by Goodliffe for a powerful 33. A double bowling change brought Rawle and Aled Langley into the attack. Langley struck first, taking an outstanding return catch to dismiss their skipper, James, with the score on 86 in the 17th over. At the other end, Rawle bowled beautifully without taking a wicket and after 5 overs had gone for just 4 runs. Carter came on from the other end, with Langley having struggled into the gale-force wind, and bowled steadily, eventually bowling the classy Sagoo for 56, leaving Eastcote on 129 for 3 in the 27th over, requiring 126 runs off 18 overs at exactly 7 runs-per-over. Rawle bowled out, taking 0-15 off his 10 overs. Youngster Adam Davies bowled tidily from the Church End, finishing with 0-22 off his 4 overs, whilst bowling to two very dangerous players. Oram returned to try and rescue the came. Sadly, he bowled poorly and, whilst not supported by great fielding, was repeatedly punished for straying too straight, and was struck to the leg side boundary. Hughes- D’Aeth bowled two more tight overs, but by the time Oram was taken out of the attack it was too late, as the excellent Stolle plundered 17 off Langley, in what turned out to be the last over of the game. A poor result for Mymms, but with Mymms fielding six under 18s, games like this will provide invaluable lessons for tight games in the future. James Oram Sunday 15th June 2008 North Mymms 126 v. Abbots Langley 161 (at Abbots Langley) Chess Valley League Division 2 On an overcast, but warm afternoon, Mymms travelled to Abbots Langley for the season’s first round of Chess Valley games. We travelled with a mixed side to say the least, but were well aided by the services of umpire, David Webb, and scorer, Colin Barson. Having lost the toss, Mymms were in the field. The openers, Oram and Wynne, bowled poorly on a wicket that offered some early assistance. At 55 for no loss after 11 overs, Mymms appeared to be in trouble. However, inspirational captain Jonny Mather brought himself into the attack and provided the breakthrough, caught behind by Harshad Rawle, with his first delivery. From here, Ian McCarthy took centre stage, ending up with figures of 5-36 off his 10 overs, ripping the heart out of the opposition’s middle order through cunning flight and guile, with the help of good catching in the gully by Oram. These wickets fell at regular intervals, which meant that Abbots were never really able to take control, despite some outstanding attacking from Abbots’ young overseas player Chellew, who played with power and precision. After the return of Wynne, Abbots were suddenly 122-7. Then Rawle relinquished the keeping gauntlets to Mather, and turned his arm over to capture the crucial wicket of Chellew, to a great catch by Oram at backward point. Then it was the turn of Chris Gregory to take a wicket, the last of the innings, bowled via a stump-splitting yorker. Having recovered well, Mymms were confident having to chase just 161 in their 45 overs. After a very lengthy tea break, and the arrival of cheerleader Neil Bamford, Mymms set about their reply. Chellew opened the bowling and dismissed Chris Cook with the 4th delivery of the innings, bowled by a pacy full ball. McCarthy followed, clean bowled in Chellew’s next over, to leave Mymms on 16-2, with Rawle still there on 13. He and skipper Mather set about repairing the damage, with a stand of 39 in 11 overs. Then, Rawle was caught at deep-mid off having played a loose shot, for 36, and the opposition realised the importance of this scalp. This brought Rhys Wynne to the wicket, who scored a punchy 36 off just 16 balls, to help Mymms to 95 before he fell, leg before wicket. At six came Nilanka Sooriyabandara. He and Mather put on 12, before he was bowled for 4 after some stout defence. Oram came in at 7, and looked comfortable, hitting one beautiful drive, before hitting a half-shot straight to mid-off who took a good catch off the experienced left-arm spinner, Foster, who finished with 4-18 from his 9 overs. At this point, the score was 121-6, with Mymms having 17 overs left to score 41 runs. Controversy followed; over the amount of overs Chellew had remaining. As one umpire was not counting or taking notes, it led to a heated discussion between the precise Webb, bemused scorer Barson and the two captains. It was of little importance however, as the lower order perished quickly without Chellew’s bowling. Ian Bright caught off a skier for 2, and Chris Gregory, Martin Dee facing just 4 balls between them for no runs, falling to the opener, Khan, who bowled at good pace. Mather was last man out for a defiant 41, caught, also off Khan, leaving Mymms 36 runs short; in a game they ought to have won, with Tom Wiggins 0 not out after 4 balls. Hopefully, next week with better availability and the arrival of key personnel, Mymms will fare better against Eastcote at home. James Oram

Hitchin 236. North Mymms 237-5 North Mymms started their County Cup campaign against Hitchin away. Jon Mather captain lost the toss and had to bowl and field on a hot, sunny day. Hitchin used fielding restrictions to score heavily early on. Ranade scoring 86 before Harshad Rawle trapped him with a turning delivery. All the Mymms bowlers bowled with accuracy to restrict Hitchin to 236 on a fast outfield. Mymms openers Mather and Rhys Wynne laid a solid foundation with Wynne first out with the score on 84 having scored 51. Mather soon followed with 35. This brought Harshad Rawle to the crease and he carried on where the openers had left off. Rawle scoring 81 not out with good support from Rhys Carter, Simon Clements and Kyle Claxton. Mymms won by 5 wickets with 4 overs to spare. Jon Mather
North Mymms Vs Waltham 20-04-2008 at Home Farm Waltham won the toss and elected to bat with overcast conditions and a decent looking strip. The new ball bowlers contained the Waltham openers and after 20 overs the score had only reached 60. Some loose fielding by the Mymms captain deprived opening bowler Goodliffe a deserved wicket, his figures of 9-4-12-0 and Jack Caulfield’s (5-0-21-1) effort were the fielding highlights. On a sorry note for North Mymms pace bowler M Williams(1-0-10-0) had to leave the field after his solitary over due to a mystery illness? Luckily for Mymms he would return with the bat seemingly unaffected. The departure of speedster Williams appeared to lift the Waltham team and with 10 men on the field Mymms struggled to contain the batsmen. The Waltham score rattled along to 200 by the 40th over and continued after the 2 Waltham batsmen retired. A smart stumping off the bowling of Cole was the last wicket to fall. 256 for 5 off 45 Overs The Mymms reply started in good fashion with Bagshaw and Cole passing the 50 mark in the 11th over. Bagshaw then lit the game up with a superb innings in which he was involved in three 50 plus stands and by the time he was out had scored 128 of the 189 Mymms total. It really was a well crafted knock with good support from Cole, Claxton and the impressive Mather. With Bagshaws’ departure came the Mymms collapse, the next seven wickets fell for just 57 runs. Skipper Mather had the chance to take his side to an unlikely victory but he was bowled by Tanveer. The plagued Williams provided a brief Cameo before the innings ended with the fall of his wicket. In the end Mymms were 12 runs short of victory in an entertaining game. (Dan Nicol) |
