History of North Mymms Cricket Club 

1861
  • North Mymms Cricket Club was founded in 1861 when the Church, supported by the local gentry, encouraged the playing of cricket as a means of keeping men contented and out of the public houses during the daylight hours when they were not at work.
1870 - 1900
  • By the late 1870’s competitive cricket had become an established feature of life and by 1900 there were 3 cricket clubs in the Parish, including North Mymms Cricket Club.  
  • After the 1914-18 war North Mymms became the only established Cricket Club, utilising the playing strength from the 3 clubs that had previously existed.
1931

1982
  • This had been preceded by the building of the current brick and tiled pavilion in 1982. 
1983
  • By 1983 the once small Parish club was able to boast 3 cricket XI’s. 
1985
  • By 1985 the Club was playing in the highest standard of cricket in Hertfordshire, following its election to the Bryan Herts Grasshopper League.  
  • The club finished 3rd in its first full season in the top flight and had established itself as a Club able to compete with the big boys.
1986
  • 1986 saw Mymms 125th anniversary, and in keeping with the Club’s continuing desire to compete effectively at the highest level possible, both in terms of its playing strength and facilities, further improvements were undertaken.

1987
  • A colts section was introduced in 1987.

1988
  • 6th place, Bryan Herts Grasshopper League
1989
  • 7th place, Bryan Herts Grasshopper League
1990

  • By 1990 funds had been raised to allow improvements to the wicket, maintenance equipment, the building of a brick and tile scorebox, road resurfacing, improvements to the pavilion and improved net facilities.

1991
  • 7th place, Bryan Herts Grasshopper League; 
  • Runners Up - Furnell Trophy (Herts League Knockout Cup)
1992

  • 4th place, Bryan Herts Grasshopper League
1994
  • 6th place, Bryan Herts Grasshopper League;

1995

1996
  • The club's overseas player is Garth West from South Africa
  • 6th place, Hertfordshire League
1997
  • 6th place, Hertfordshire League
  • 5.5.97 - Major General Sir George Burns GCVO, CB, DSO, OBE, MC dies after 66 years as our president
1998

  • The Club’s overseas player is Ravindu Shah, from Kenya.
  • 9th place, Hertfordshire League (qualified for Premier  Division in 1999). 
  • 3rd XI - Herts League Division 5 Champions

1999

 

  • Extended the ground
  • Again the Club’s overseas player is Ravindu Shah, who played for Kenya in the Cricket World Cup in England in 1999;  
  • Hosted the Kenyan national side Click HERE for photo
  • 1st XI (Premier Division) and 2nd XI (Divison 4) finished 4th place, in Hertfordshire League
  • Introduced a 4th XI consisting of several senior players overseeing a team of the better younger players, with a view to providing an early introduction to senior competitive cricket.  Finished 5th place in Divison 10 of the Hertfordshire League.
  • Quarter Finalists, Evening Standard Challenge Trophy
2000
  • Again the Club’s overseas player is Ravindu Shah, from Kenya.
  • 1st XI (Premier Division) finished 10th & relegated, 2nd XI (Division 4) finished 12th, 3rd XI (Division 9) finished 16th, 4th XI (Division 10) finished 20th place and relegated
  • Quarter Finalists, Becker Trophy
2001
  • The Club's overseas player is Denis Byam from St Vincent in the West Indies
  • 1st XI (Division 1) finished 6th, 2nd XI (Division 4) finished 10th, 3rd XI (Division 9) finished 8th, 4th XI (Division 11) finished 16th place
  • New Snug Bar created & refurbishment of the clubhouse commenced.
2002
  • The Club's overseas player is Brad Wilson from Melbourne, Australia and Denis Byam from St Vincent in the West Indies
  • Investment in refurbishments - e.g. covers etc
  • Semi Finalists, Becker Trophy
  • 1st XI (Division 1) finished 7th, 2nd XI (Division 4) finished 13th, 3rd XI (Division 9) finished 6th, 4th XI (Division 11) finished xx place
  • Sunday 1st XI (Division 1) of Slazenger Chess Valley League finished 4th
2003
  • The Club's overseas players is Will Hantam from South Africa and Harshad Rawale from India

  • Sunday 1st XI (Division 1) of Slazenger Chess Valley League finished 3rd
  • In losing only one League match Mymms equalled their previous lowest set in the Championship season of 1992. After the defeat at the hands  of Hitchin in the first match of this season, Mymms now remain undefeated in 20 League matches. To put this achievement into context, since entering the Hertfordshire League in1985 their previous best runs of remaining undefeated have been as follows:-

    17 - in seasons 1990 (champions for the first time)

    12 - in  1995

  • Danny Duggan took 120 wickets in all games in the season - 81 of these in the league = CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS

  • Neil Black took 37 stumpings and 23 catches, breaking the club record

  • Quarter Finalists, Becker Trophy

  • Winner of Regional Final, Round 2 of National Finals of National Village Cricket Championship

2004
  • The Club's overseas players are Santosh Saxana and Harshad Rawale from India
  • 1st XI (HCPL Division 2 E) finished 1st, promoted to HCPL Division 1, 2nd XI (Division 5) finished 1st, promoted to Division 4, 3rd XI (Division 9) finished 6th, 4th XI (Division 12) finished 13th place

2005
  • The Club's overseas players are Wendell Roberts from West Indies and Harshad Rawale from India

  • 1st XI (HCPL Division 1) finished 10th (relegated to HCPL Division 2 East), 2nd XI (Division 4) finished 5th, 3rd XI (Division 9) finished 8th, 4th XI (Division 12) finished 15th.
  • Sunday 1st XI (Division 1) Winners of Slazenger Chess Valley League - Chris Edrupt won the Bowling and Duncan Elder the Batting awards
2006
  • The club welcomed back Wendell and Harshad.

  •  1st XI (HCPL Division 2 East) finished 5th, 2nd XI (Division 4) finished 7th,

     3rd XI (Division 9) finished 14th, 4th XI (Division 12) finished 8th.

  • Sunday 1st XI (Division 1) Winners of Slazenger Chess Valley League - for the second season in succession.
